Is Overcooked 2 Crossplay? Why You Need All You Can Eat

Overcooked 2 is one of the best co-op games ever made, and a lot of the search results about its crossplay are simply wrong. The short version is that the original release and the remastered collection behave very differently, and buying the wrong one is the usual reason a Switch player cannot join a friend on PS5.

Does Overcooked 2 Have Crossplay?

Only on PC. Team17's support page states that cross-play in the Overcooked 2 base game is available for PC players only. Steam players can play with other Steam players normally, and players on Epic, GOG or PC Game Pass can join them through Team17's in-game friend system.

The PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions of Overcooked 2 have online multiplayer, but only with players on the same console family. There is no crossplay between them, and none with PC.

How to Enable Overcooked 2 Crossplay on Steam

• Right-click Overcooked! 2 in your Steam library and open Properties.
• Go to Betas and select crossplay_branch from the dropdown.
• Let the update download, then launch and invite friends through the Team17 friend system.

Everyone playing together on Steam must be on the same branch, so if one of you switches to the crossplay branch, the other Steam players need to switch too. Changing branch does not delete your progress.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat Is the Crossplay Version

All You Can Eat is a remaster of Overcooked and Overcooked 2 in one package, with all the DLC, extra levels, an assist mode and online play for levels from the first game. It is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Switch, and a free update added cross-platform online play for every kitchen.

If your group is split across a Switch, a PlayStation and a PC, All You Can Eat is the only version where all of you can cook in the same online kitchen. Owning the original Overcooked 2 does not unlock it; it is a separate purchase.

Both games show up regularly in Steam sales and in bundles from stores such as Fanatical, so it is worth checking the price for the whole group before everyone buys at full price.

Overcooked 2 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Overcooked 2 on Nintendo Switch plays online only with other Switch players. It also runs on Switch 2 through backward compatibility, so a Switch owner and a Switch 2 owner can cook together online with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. What neither can do is join a friend on PlayStation, Xbox or PC in the original game. For that, everyone needs All You Can Eat, which is also sold on Switch.

Is Overcooked 2 Couch Co-op?

Yes, and this is where it shines. Up to four players can share one screen on any platform, and on Switch two players can even split a pair of Joy-Con. For four players on PC or PlayStation you will need four controllers, and budget pads from Banggood are a cheap way to fill the gaps.

Does Overcooked 2 Have Cross-Progression?

No. Saves stay on the platform, and on PC they stay with the store you bought from. Progress in Overcooked 2 also does not transfer into All You Can Eat, so moving to the remaster means earning your stars again.

Buy the Version Your Whole Kitchen Can Join
