Is Fortnite Crossplay? Platforms, Settings and the V-Bucks Catch

Fortnite is the clearest example of how crossplay works when a publisher commits to it fully. A player on a phone can squad up with friends on a PS5 and a gaming PC in the same match. The few limits that exist are about settings and currency rather than who you can play with.

Is Fortnite Cross-Platform?

Yes, on every platform it is available on:

• PC through the Epic Games Launcher
• PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
• Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
• Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
• Android and iOS, plus cloud streaming services

Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Ranked, LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival and creator islands all use the same cross-platform pool. You add friends through the Epic friends list, which works the same on every device.

How to Turn Fortnite Crossplay On or Off

On PlayStation and Xbox, open Settings, go to the Account and Privacy tab, scroll to Gameplay Privacy and set Allow Cross Platform Play to Yes or No. According to Epic's support page, Switch, PC and mobile have no off switch at all.

On Xbox there is a second layer. If the in-game setting is on but you still cannot match with other platforms, check the console's own privacy settings under Communication and multiplayer and make sure cross-network play is allowed. Turning crossplay off on console also means longer queues, since you only match with players on the same system.

Does Fortnite Have Cross-Progression?

Yes. Once each platform account is linked to the same Epic Games account, your skins, emotes, Battle Pass level and other progress appear everywhere you sign in. You can link one account of each type, so one PlayStation Network account, one Xbox account and one Nintendo Account. Progress on two separate Epic accounts cannot be merged, so pick one before you start buying.

The V-Bucks Catch

Items bought with V-Bucks follow you everywhere, but the V-Bucks themselves do not always. Epic keeps a shared wallet for most platforms, with exceptions: V-Bucks bought on Nintendo Switch have historically stayed on Switch, and some regions add their own restrictions. Is Crossplay Fair Between PC, Console and Mobile?

PC players have higher frame rates and mouse aim, and mobile players have the hardest time. Epic balances this partly through skill-based matchmaking, and in practice connection quality often matters as much as hardware.
