Where to Redeem a V-Bucks Card

Every V-Bucks card is redeemed in one place: the Epic Games page at fortnite.com/vbuckscard. Sign in with the Epic Games account you use for Fortnite, and the code goes in there. It works from any browser, on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

The code does not go into Fortnite itself. It also does not go into the general redeem-a-code page in your Epic account settings, which handles other Epic purchases and follows a different process. Using the wrong entry point is the most common reason a working card looks broken.

Check the Card First: V-Bucks Card or Fortnite Gift Card?

Epic is replacing V-Bucks cards with Fortnite Gift Cards, and the two are not interchangeable. A V-Bucks card redeems for a set amount of V-Bucks. A Fortnite Gift Card adds funds to your Epic Games account balance instead, and has its own redemption route. Epic is explicit that if your card says Fortnite Gift Card, the V-Bucks instructions do not apply, as set out on Epic Games Support.

So read the front of the card before you start. Both types are in circulation while the changeover runs, and V-Bucks cards may still be on sale in some regions and at some retailers. Digital sellers such as CDKeys list V-Bucks top-up cards as their own category, which makes the distinction easier to spot at the point of purchase than it is on a shelf.

How to Redeem V-Bucks Step by Step

Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard and select Get Started.
Sign in to the Epic Games account you play Fortnite on. If you play on a console, you can sign in with your console credentials.
Enter the PIN from under the scratch panel on the back of the card, or from the delivery email if the card is digital. Leave out any dashes.
Choose the platform where you want the V-Bucks credited. Only platforms already linked to your Epic account appear in the list.
Check the confirmation screen, which shows the Epic account, the platform and your new balance, then select Confirm.

Keep the receipt until the V-Bucks actually appear. Epic Games Support may ask for it if something goes wrong with the redemption.

Why PlayStation and Xbox Need a Second Code

PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile finish at that confirmation screen. PlayStation and Xbox do not. Choosing either of those generates a second code, shown on screen and also emailed to you, and the V-Bucks do not arrive until it is entered in that platform's own store.

PlayStation: a 12-character code, entered under Redeem Codes in the PlayStation Store on your console, the web store, or the PlayStation app.
Xbox: a 25-character code, entered under Redeem in the Microsoft Store on your console or on the Microsoft Store website.

Sign in to the console account that is linked to your Epic Games account when you enter it. This step is where most V-Bucks get stranded: the first code is accepted, the second one sits unused in an inbox, and nothing ever shows up in the game.

How to Redeem V-Bucks on a Nintendo Switch

Switch is the simplest route and the most restrictive. Select Nintendo Switch on the redemption page and the V-Bucks are added to the Fortnite account linked to your Nintendo account, with no second code to chase. Nintendo documents its side of this on Nintendo Support.

The catch is not the process but where the balance stays afterwards, which is worth understanding before you choose Switch at all.

The Shared Wallet: Where Your V-Bucks Can Be Spent

Fortnite runs a Shared Wallet. V-Bucks redeemed to PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile or a cloud gaming service all go into one balance that works across every one of those, so a card redeemed on PlayStation is spendable on PC.

Nintendo Switch sits outside it. V-Bucks redeemed to a Switch can only be spent on Nintendo devices, and they cannot be moved afterwards. If the player uses a Switch and anything else, redeeming to the other platform keeps the balance usable in both places, while redeeming to the Switch does not.

This is the most consequential decision in the whole process, and it is made in a dropdown most people click straight past. Region-Locked Cards and the Flag in the Corner

Some V-Bucks cards are region-locked, and the tell is a small flag printed in the upper-left corner. A card carrying a flag redeems only when your Epic or platform account matches that region. A card with no flag works regardless of the account's country.

This matters most when buying from an overseas seller. Marketplaces such as Kinguin list V-Bucks codes split out by region and by platform, so the variant you pick has to match the account you intend to redeem on. A region mismatch is far easier to avoid at checkout than to resolve afterwards.

When a V-Bucks Code Will Not Work

Confirm which Epic account you are signed in to. The V-Bucks go to the account shown on the confirmation screen, and that cannot be changed later.
Re-enter the PIN without dashes or spaces, and watch for the letter O against a zero.
If you chose PlayStation or Xbox and nothing arrived, check whether the second code is still sitting unopened in your email.
If the platform you want is missing from the dropdown, it is not yet linked to your Epic account. Link it in your account connections first, then redeem.
A card reporting as already used when you have never redeemed it, or a card that fails on a matching region, is worth taking to Epic Games Support with the card and the receipt.

The Platform Dropdown Is the Important Part

Everything about redeeming a V-Bucks card is straightforward except one dropdown. Get the Epic account right, type the PIN carefully, and then slow down on the platform list, because that single choice decides whether the balance follows the player everywhere or stays locked to one console.
