Roughly 60 games are on the record for Game Pass right now, and they fall into three very different groups. Some have a firm calendar date. Some have a year or a quarter and nothing more. Day One or Later Addition: How to Tell the Difference

A day-one release lands on Game Pass the same day it goes on sale to everyone else. A later addition is a game that has already shipped, sometimes years ago, joining the catalogue as a back-catalogue pickup. Both appear on "coming to Game Pass" lists in identical formatting, and that single ambiguity causes most of the confusion around this subject. Microsoft markets the distinction on its own day-one releases page, but does not label individual catalogue additions that way.

Three rules cover almost every case:

Games from Xbox-owned studios are day one. Gears of War: E-Day, Fable and State of Decay 3 all arrive on Game Pass the day they launch.
Third-party games are usually later additions, unless the publisher struck a specific launch deal. Dune: Awakening is this year's clearest exception, announced as a day-one Game Pass launch title.
If a game is already on sale and turns up on an upcoming list, it is a catalogue addition by definition. Most of the August titles marked as joining Premium fall here, Bounty Star and Grounded 2 among them.

The practical consequence: a long upcoming list is not the same as a long list of launches. Sixteen titles carry dates for the rest of 2026, and just three of them are confirmed day-one launches.

Which Tier Gets the Game: Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass

Since the tiers were restructured, "coming to Game Pass" no longer means coming to your Game Pass. Ultimate carries first-party day-one launches and cloud streaming. PC Game Pass covers the same day-one first-party titles on Windows only. Premium receives a mix, weighted towards catalogue additions and titles that arrived on Ultimate earlier. This matters more in 2026 than it used to. Vapor World: Over the Mind is confirmed for the third quarter, which means it could still land in September or slip past it.

Three more are confirmed for the fourth quarter without a specific date: Freestyle Football 2, Mariachi Legends, and There Are No Ghosts At The Grand.

E-Day is the one to plan around. It is a prequel built for competitive multiplayer, it is on Game Pass from day one across Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and the beta made clear the servers fill fast in the opening week. Marvel's Blade - from Arkane Lyon; every Bethesda-published title so far has arrived on Game Pass at launch
The Elder Scrolls 6 - same reasoning, though the timeline remains open
Project Fantasy - IO Interactive's fantasy role-playing game, unrelated to its Hitman and 007 work

Project Mara, previously on lists like this one, was cancelled and has been removed.

Will GTA 6 Be on Game Pass?

No, and there is no announcement suggesting otherwise. Rockstar has never put a mainline Grand Theft Auto on a subscription service at launch, and a game expected to be the largest commercial release in the medium's history has no reason to be the first. Expect to buy it outright on Xbox.
