Twelve of the world’s elite Dota 2 squads converge on Copenhagen for the last Tier 1 clash of the season before the Esports World Cup and The International. For many, BLAST Slam VII is more than a tournament – it’s a final audition under the brightest lights.
What is BLAST Slam VII?
BLAST Slam VII is the seventh instalment of BLAST’s flagship Dota 2 tournament series, organized by the globally recognized esports event company BLAST. Since its debut, the SLAM series has become one of the most anticipated recurring competitions on the Dota 2 calendar, known for its structured format, million-dollar prize pool, and top-tier production quality.
The tournament brings together 12 of the best professional Dota 2 teams in the world, mixing direct invites from tournament organizers with squads that fought their way through regional qualifiers across Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.
Why it Matters
BLAST Slam VII is far more than a routine tournament stop. It serves as the final Tier 1 showdown before teams enter the grueling qualifier stretch for the year’s two biggest events: the Dota 2 Esports World Cup in Paris (July 6–18) and, perhaps even more critically, The International 2026 in Shanghai (August 13–23). Results at BLAST Slam VII will significantly shape expectations – and potentially momentum – heading into both of those pinnacle events.
The timing also makes it a perfect proving ground. Coming just days after DreamLeague Season 29 – which crowned PARIVISION as champions following a tightly contested 3-2 final against Aurora Gaming – BLAST Slam VII allows little recovery time. Teams must hit the ground running, meaning rosters that are cohesive and well-drilled will have a clear edge over those still finding their footing.
BLAST Slam VII: The Format
BLAST Slam VII follows the traditional format that has become a hallmark of the series – a blend of an online group stage and a live playoff at BLAST’s Copenhagen studio. The multi-stage structure ensures that the strongest teams rise through a fair and competitive bracket.

During the Group Stage, all 12 teams play in a round-robin format with best-of-one matches. The top two teams advance directly to the Upper Bracket semifinals of the playoffs. Teams finishing 5th and 6th advance to the second round of the Last Chance Qualifier, while 7th through 10th-place teams enter the first round. The bottom two teams are eliminated. From June 4 to June 7, the live playoffs in Copenhagen feature best-of-three matches building to a classic best-of-five Grand Final.
The Teams
Twelve organizations have earned their place at BLAST Slam VII, combining returning powerhouses with fresher challengers. Each squad enters the event carrying its own storyline, form, and ambitions.

The Storylines to Watch
Team Liquid: Defend the Crown. The North American-European organization enters as the reigning BLAST Slam champions after clinching BLAST Slam VI with a $300,000 victory. That win restored their status as title contenders and with momentum behind them, they’ll be desperate to become back-to-back SLAM champions – a feat that would cement their legacy in the series.
Team Spirit: EWC Giants Under Pressure. The Russian organization’s $1,000,000 victory at the Esports World Cup 2025 announced them as a team capable of performing on the grandest stages. Rivals have had months to study them since then, and BLAST Slam VII may reveal whether their strategies have evolved or stagnated.
BetBoom Team: Building Momentum. Fresh off a first-place finish at PGL Wallachia Season 8 and a $300,000 payday, BetBoom Team arrives in Copenhagen as one of the hottest teams in the world. Their ability to carry that form into BLAST Slam VII could make them the tournament’s dark horse – or outright favourite.
Tundra Esports: Dangerous Challengers. Tundra showed their class at ESL One Birmingham 2026, claiming the title and $250,000. The European squad has always been capable of deep playoff runs, and BLAST Slam VII presents a chance to further cement their reputation as consistent Tier 1 contenders.
GLYPH: The Newcomers. On paper, GLYPH are the underdogs of this field. The newly formed roster, built from familiar Southeast Asian talent, will be making its Tier 1 debut together. While few expect them to win the trophy, BLAST Slam VII gives the squad invaluable experience under tournament conditions before the qualifier circuit begins.
PARIVISION: Double Down. Just days removed from winning DreamLeague Season 29, PARIVISION arrive in Copenhagen riding extraordinary form. The question is whether their preparation can sustain across two consecutive top-flight tournaments – or whether fatigue becomes a factor.
Prize Pool Distribution
The $1,000,000 prize pool is distributed across the finishers, with 40% – $400,000 – reserved for the tournament champion. The BLAST Slam series is notable for its structured prize distribution that ensures both organizations and individual players receive a meaningful share of the winnings.

Looking Ahead
BLAST Slam VII is arriving at a pivotal crossroads in the Dota 2 competitive calendar. With The International 2026 looming in August in Shanghai and the Esports World Cup in Paris just weeks away, every match result carries weight far beyond the prize pool. Teams are simultaneously competing for the trophy and fine-tuning their identities ahead of the season’s true climax.
For fans, this is exactly the kind of event that makes Dota 2‘s competitive scene so compelling: elite talent, high stakes, and genuine uncertainty about who emerges on top. BLAST Slam VII kicks off May 26, and with twelve hungry teams vying for glory, Copenhagen is about to become the center of the Dota 2 universe.
