Is Terraria Cross-Platform?

Terraria is one of the few games where the answer has genuinely moved in the last year, which means a lot of what you will read about it is out of date in one direction or the other. Re-Logic and its console partner have been building this in stages rather than shipping it all at once.

What Works Right Now

A PC player hosts a dedicated server, shares the IP address and port, and the mobile player connects manually through Multiplayer, then Online, then Add.

Everyone needs the same game version, which is the usual reason it fails. A simpler join-code system has been described as part of a later phase, so the manual setup is a temporary state rather than the design.

What Re-Logic Has Said Is Coming

Console crossplay is the piece people are waiting on. Re-Logic has indicated the work is largely done and that the hold-up is certification from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo rather than development. At Gamescom in 2026 the studio described a first phase of wider crossplay as being lined up for patch 1.4.6, without committing to a date or a platform list.

That is worth reading carefully. A studio saying a feature is on deck is not the same as a release date, and platform approvals have slipped before. Cross-Save Is a Separate Question

Terraria has none. Characters and worlds are tied to the platform where you made them, and there is no official way to move a world from PC to a console or from mobile to Steam. A base you spent two hundred hours on does not travel.

Nothing in the crossplay roadmap promises this will change alongside it. The two features are separate engineering problems, and Re-Logic has not committed to the second. Sandbox games in general tend to be worse at this than other genres, because a world file is a much larger and messier thing to sync than a character profile.
