Best 2 Player PS5 Games for Couch Co-op and Split Screen

Summary: The best 2 player PS5 games for playing on the same sofa include Split Fiction, It Takes Two, Overcooked! All You Can Eat, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Halo: Campaign Evolved. For competitive nights, Street Fighter 6 and Rocket League are hard to beat, and Rocket League and Fortnite are free to play. Every game here supports local play on one PS5.

• Every pick supports two players on one PS5, either split screen or shared screen.
• Split Fiction and It Takes Two are built entirely around two-player co-op.
• Rocket League and Fortnite are free and support split screen.
• Fighting games like Street Fighter 6 are the best head-to-head picks.

Plenty of PS5 games are multiplayer, but far fewer let two people play on the same console. Everything in this list works with two controllers on one PS5, so nobody needs a second copy or a second screen.

Best Co-op Games for Two

• Split Fiction: Hazelight's 2025 follow-up to It Takes Two is a two-player-only adventure that swaps genres constantly, from sci-fi to fantasy. It supports local split screen and a Friend's Pass for online play.
• It Takes Two: the game that made Hazelight famous, following a couple through a world of toys and household objects. Every level is designed around both players working together.
• Halo: Campaign Evolved: the 2026 remake of the original Halo campaign brings two-player split-screen co-op to PS5 for the first time.
• Sackboy: A Big Adventure: a bright, forgiving platformer that works well with a younger player or someone new to games.
• Unravel Two: a gentle puzzle platformer where two yarn characters are tied together, so neither can progress alone.

Best Chaotic Party Games

• Overcooked! All You Can Eat: the complete Overcooked collection, where two cooks race to get orders out of a disastrous kitchen. It is as much about communication as skill.
• Moving Out 2: a physics-based removals game where carrying a sofa through a window together is the whole point.
• Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time: its pass-and-play modes let two players take turns on tough levels without needing split screen.

Best Competitive Games

• Street Fighter 6: the best modern fighting game for beginners and experts alike, with simplified controls for newer players.
• Rocket League: free to play, with split screen for two players on one console.
• EA Sports FC and NBA 2K: the annual sports games remain the default for head-to-head matches.

Best Games for Longer Sessions Together

• Minecraft: split screen lets two players build and explore the same world.
• Stardew Valley: local split-screen co-op lets two players run a farm together.
• Diablo IV: supports couch co-op on console, so two players can fight through the campaign side by side.
• Fortnite: free, with split screen on console for two players.

Free 2 Player PS5 Games

If you do not want to spend anything, Rocket League and Fortnite both support split screen and are free to play. Online play in most games needs PlayStation Plus, but local play on the same console does not.

Picking the Right Game for Your Pair

Start with what both players enjoy. Split Fiction or It Takes Two is the best choice for a shared story, Overcooked! for a noisy evening, and Street Fighter 6 or Rocket League if you would rather compete than cooperate.
