Can You Use Google Pay on Amazon

Summary: No, Amazon does not accept Google Pay at checkout on its website or app. You can still use the money and cards you keep in Google Pay. Add the underlying card to your Amazon account, let Chrome fill in your saved card details, or buy an Amazon gift card with Google Pay and add it to your Amazon balance.

  • Google Pay is not a payment option on Amazon.com or in the Amazon app.
  • The card inside Google Wallet can be added to Amazon as a normal card.
  • Amazon gift cards bought with Google Pay become Amazon balance.
  • Some Amazon physical stores accept contactless phone payments.

Does Amazon Take Google Pay?

No. Amazon runs its own payment system and accepts cards, Amazon gift card balance and a few selected partners, but Google Pay is not among them. There is no Google Pay button at checkout, and Amazon has not announced plans to add one. The same is true for Apple Pay on Amazon.com.

Workaround 1: Add Your Google Wallet Card Directly

Google Pay is only a wrapper around a real debit or credit card. Go to Your Account, then Your Payments on Amazon, and add that card with its number, expiry date and billing address. You get the same card and rewards, just without the Google Pay layer.

Workaround 2: Use Chrome's Saved Payment Details

If you shop in Chrome and have cards saved to your Google account, Chrome can fill in the card form at Amazon checkout. For some eligible cards, Chrome offers a virtual card number instead of your real one, which adds a layer of protection. It is not technically Google Pay, but it uses the same saved cards.

Workaround 3: Buy an Amazon Gift Card With Google Pay

This is the closest you can get to paying with Google Pay on Amazon. Buy a digital Amazon gift card from a seller that accepts Google Pay, then redeem the code under Gift Cards in your Amazon account. The value becomes Amazon balance, which Amazon applies first at checkout.

It is the same approach we cover in our guide on using Apple Pay on Amazon, and it works just as well for Google Pay.

Google Pay at Amazon Physical Stores

Amazon-owned stores such as Whole Foods Market use contactless terminals, where Google Pay generally works like tapping a card. Policies vary by store format, so check the terminal before relying on it.

Retailers That Do Take Phone Wallets

If Google Pay is your preferred way to pay, some large retailers support it more directly. For electronics, Best Buy accepts contactless phone payments in store, which makes it a handy alternative for tech purchases.

The Easiest Route for Google Pay Users

Adding your card directly is quickest for regular shopping. If you want to keep payments inside Google Pay, or you are sending Amazon credit to someone else, an Amazon gift card bought with Google Pay is the cleanest option.

To add to your balance, buy an Amazon gift card.
