How to Redeem a Target Gift Card In Store, Online and in the App

How to Redeem a Target Gift Card In Store

Tell the cashier you are paying with a gift card and hand it over, or open the digital gift card email and show the barcode. At self-checkout, choose gift card as the payment type and scan the barcode. If the gift card does not cover everything, pay the rest with any other method.

How to Redeem a Target Gift Card Online

• Add items to your cart on Target.com and go to checkout.
• In the payment section, choose to add a gift card.
• Enter the card number and the access number, then apply.
• Add another card or a second payment method if the order total is higher.

Where to Find the Target Gift Card Access Number

On a physical card, the access number is under the scratch-off strip on the back, next to the card number. On a digital card, both numbers are in the delivery email. You need both for online orders, which is why a photo of only the front of a card is not enough to spend it.

How to Add a Target Gift Card to the Target App

Open the Target app, go to Wallet, then to the gift card section, and add the card by scanning it or typing the numbers. Once saved, the card appears as a payment option for online orders and shows a barcode you can scan at the register. It also works for Drive Up and Order Pickup orders placed in the app.

What You Cannot Buy With a Target Gift Card

Target gift cards cannot be used to buy other gift cards or prepaid cards in most cases, and they cannot pay a Target Circle Card bill. They also only work at Target, so they are not accepted at other retailers even inside the same shopping center.

If you are shopping for something Target does not stock in the size or model you want, specialist stores are the fallback. Running shoes from Skechers and nursing and baby gear from Momcozy are two common examples.

If Your Target Gift Card Will Not Redeem

Check that you entered the access number, not just the card number, and that there are no extra spaces. Cards bought in store must be activated at purchase, so keep the receipt. If the numbers are right and it still fails, contact Target Guest Services with the card and receipt.
