When Was October Prime Day?

Prime Big Deal Days ran on Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The sale opened just after midnight Pacific Time on October 6, which is 3 a.m. on the US East Coast, and lasted 48 hours. According to Amazon's announcement, members could shop deals across more than 35 categories, and dates varied slightly by country.

This year's October event was shorter than in the past, when it ran for four days. Early deals on Amazon devices, Kindle and Amazon Music went live ahead of the sale, and during the event itself Amazon released new deals three times a day.

What Is Prime Big Deal Days?

Amazon launched the first Prime Day on July 15, 2015, to mark its 20th anniversary. It was meant as a one-day sale for Prime members, and it grew quickly into one of the biggest shopping events of the year. Since 2022, Amazon has held two Prime Day-level events every year: the main Prime Day in summer and Prime Big Deal Days in the fall.

The summer event has lasted four days since 2025, and in 2026 it moved from its usual July slot to June 23 to 26. The October event is the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, which is why it leans heavily on gifts, toys, decorations and seasonal items.

How Prime Day Went

June's Prime Day was the biggest on record. Adobe Analytics, which tracks online sales across US retailers rather than Amazon alone, counted $26.4 billion in online spending over the four days, up about 9% on 2025 and slightly ahead of its own forecast. That is more than US shoppers spent online across Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025 combined.

• Electronics led the way, with sales up 120% compared with an average day in June.
• Appliances, tools, home and garden, and furniture all saw large jumps too.
• More than half of all online sales were made on phones.
• Buy now, pay later spending reached about $2.1 billion, up 9.5% on last year.

Is Prime Day Worth It?

For the right products, yes. Adobe found that electronics discounts across US retailers peaked at around 24% off list price during the June event, with apparel also around 24%, toys around 20% and appliances around 16%. Amazon's own devices, such as Echo speakers, Fire TV sticks and Kindles, are usually discounted hardest, often matching their Black Friday lows.

It is less worth it if you shop without a plan. Not every deal badge is a genuine low, and lightning deals are designed to rush decisions. A few habits keep the savings real, and they apply just as well to Black Friday:

• Make a shortlist before the sale starts and add items to your wishlist so you are notified when they drop.
• Check the price history with a price tracker instead of trusting the crossed-out price.
• Compare with other retailers, which usually run competing sales the same week.
• Check the seller and return policy, especially on third-party listings.

What Was Worth Buying During October Prime Day

Because the fall event landed just before the holidays, it was a good moment to tick off gifts early. The categories that delivered included Amazon devices, headphones and speakers, smart home gear, kitchen appliances, vacuums, toys and games, fall and winter clothing, and seasonal decor. Big-ticket electronics such as TVs and laptops also saw strong discounts, though Black Friday can sometimes go lower on those.

For electronics in particular, it is worth comparing Amazon's price with Best Buy, which typically runs its own sale around the same dates and sometimes matches or beats Amazon on laptops, TVs and gaming gear.
