In 2025, CoinGate focused on strengthening the foundations of crypto payments for businesses operating globally.

2025 was also a year of significant platform progress. We focused on strengthening the foundations of crypto payments through product maturity, infrastructure expansion, and regulatory alignment, guided by real-world usage data and merchant needs.

This article provides an overview of the most important developments delivered throughout the year and a sneak peak into what’s coming next.

Regulatory Milestones: MiCA and Payment Institution Licenses

Regulation was a major milestone for CoinGate in 2025.

We obtained authorization under the MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) framework from the Bank of Lithuania, alongside a Payment Institution license, placing CoinGate within a unified European regulatory environment.

MiCA introduces consistent rules across EU member states, moving crypto payments out of fragmented national frameworks and into a structured, regulated financial system. For businesses, this reduces legal uncertainty and supports smoother cross-border operations within the EU.

Licensing also enforces higher standards for governance, AML/CTF controls, sanctions screening, and safeguarding of customer funds. These requirements strengthen the infrastructure behind every transaction and reduce operational risks that often remain hidden until issues arise.

For merchants, working with a licensed provider improves trust with customers, partners, and financial institutions, directly supporting long-term growth and stability.

New Checkout Experience with WalletConnect

Crypto checkouts have historically been difficult to use, inconsistent across networks, and unreliable during peak demand. Over time, this complexity has created friction for both shoppers and merchants, leading to abandoned payments, support overhead, and manual reconciliation work.

In 2025, CoinGate rebuilt its checkout experience from the ground up using insights gathered from millions of real transactions processed across multiple blockchains, wallet types, and geographies.

Based on recurring patterns we observed, we redesigned the checkout to provide clearer guidance, real-time feedback, and stronger operational structure behind the scenes. The goal was to make crypto payments feel more predictable and familiar, without sacrificing flexibility or security.

After piloting the new checkout with selected merchants, early results showed measurable improvements:

  • Up to 20% higher overall conversion
  • 15% higher conversion for first-time shoppers
  • 20% higher completion rates for returning customers
  • Payments completing approximately 25% faster

A key part of this improvement was the full integration of WalletConnect into the checkout flow.

walletconnect coingate

WalletConnect is an open-source protocol that securely connects crypto wallets to applications without exposing private keys. With WalletConnect support, customers can pay using 700+ supported wallets across Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin networks, either directly in-browser or by scanning a QR code with a mobile wallet.

From a user perspective, this removes the need to manually copy wallet addresses or amounts. All payment details are delivered directly to the wallet, where the transaction is reviewed and signed securely.

From a merchant perspective, this results in higher conversion and lower operational overhead. Fewer payment errors mean fewer failed transactions, fewer customer support tickets, and a more reliable checkout experience, especially on mobile devices, where manual input has traditionally caused the most friction.

CoinGate continues to act as the merchant payment processor, while WalletConnect serves as a secure communication layer. Private keys never leave the user’s wallet, and all signing happens locally within the wallet application.

Together, the redesigned checkout and WalletConnect integration deliver a faster, clearer, and more dependable crypto payment experience from the first step to settlement.

Better Dashboard, Reconciliation, and Reporting

Throughout 2025, we continued refining the CoinGate dashboard to make it easier to operate, understand, and manage crypto payments at scale.

exporting and reconciliating crypto transactions

Based on ongoing client feedback, we improved the overall user experience with clearer navigation, simplified views, and faster access to key insights across payments, balances, conversions, and payouts.

Key improvements include:

  • Structured reporting and exports, with CSV downloads, Ledger API endpoints, and downloadable PDF account statements
  • Business roles and permissions, allowing teams to control access and responsibilities more precisely
  • Simplified dashboards designed to make day-to-day crypto operations more transparent and efficient

These updates reduce operational friction for finance, operations, and compliance teams, while helping businesses stay on top of their crypto activity with less manual work.

Crypto Payouts: Flexible, Cross-Asset, and Scalable

Crypto payouts saw significant functional upgrades in 2025, expanding CoinGate’s role beyond payment acceptance.

Businesses can now send payouts using any balance they hold, while CoinGate automatically converts and delivers funds in the recipient’s preferred cryptocurrency. This removes the need for manual pre-conversions and managing multiple wallet balances.

crypto payouts for businesses

Payouts can be executed via dashboard, API and CSV uploads for batch operations.

A typical payout flow now allows a business to select a recipient, enter the amount in EUR, choose a source balance (for example, BTC), and rely on CoinGate to handle the conversion and delivery to the recipient’s wallet in the desired asset.

This flexibility is especially valuable for affiliate programs, vendor settlements, payroll, and international payments, where recipients often prefer different cryptocurrencies or stablecoins.

Expanded Ethereum Layer 2 Support: Optimism and Base

In 2025, CoinGate expanded Ethereum payment support by integrating Optimism and Base networks for ETH and USDC transactions.

These Layer 2 solutions use optimistic rollups to process transactions off-chain while inheriting Ethereum’s security. The result is significantly lower fees, faster settlement, and improved reliability compared to Ethereum mainnet.

Optimism and Base are now available across the full CoinGate platform, including payments, payouts, withdrawals and refunds.

Both networks are widely adopted within the Ethereum ecosystem and align with long-term scalability efforts.

Closing Thoughts

2025 was a year of consolidation and progress for CoinGate. We focused on strengthening the platform, improving how businesses interact with crypto payments, and aligning our operations with evolving regulatory standards.

The work continues. As crypto payments mature, our focus remains on building reliable infrastructure shaped by real-world use and the needs of businesses operating globally. 2026 roadmap is coming soon – stay tuned.
