Coinbase Commerce in the EU: FAQ

Switching from Coinbase Commerce

Is Coinbase Commerce shutting down?

Yes. Coinbase asked merchants to move to Coinbase Business by 31 March 2026. After that date, they can no longer create charges or open the Commerce dashboard.

Can EU businesses use Coinbase Business?

Not yet. Coinbase Business is available to businesses with a legal entity in the US or Singapore. Coinbase says it plans to expand to more markets.

What does Coinbase Business charge?

A fee on each completed payment, which you see after you log in. Merchants who moved from Commerce keep 1%. Converting USDC to USD automatically costs an extra fee.

What happened to funds in Commerce wallets?

Commerce wallets were self-custodial, so Coinbase never held them. Coinbase told merchants to withdraw before 31 March 2026, and it can’t recover funds if a seed phrase is lost.

Is Coinbase licensed under MiCA?

Yes, through Coinbase Luxembourg S.A., authorised by the CSSF on 20 June 2025. Coinbase Business itself is still limited to US and Singapore companies. CoinGate’s operator, UAB Decentralized, was authorised by the Bank of Lithuania on 16 December 2025.

Which currencies can I settle in with CoinGate?

EUR, GBP or USD, USDC or EURC, or crypto such as BTC and ETH. If you don’t choose, orders settle in USDC.
