Squaretalk takes crypto through a MiCA-licensed partner

Squaretalk, a unified communications platform working in 150+ countries, added crypto to remove payment friction for international and fintech clients. Payments convert to euros on receipt, and a year on the process is, in Squaretalk’s words, “for the most part fully automated”.

The challenge

Many Squaretalk clients work in fintech or across borders, where banking is slow, restrictive and costly. For them, paying in crypto is already part of how they do business. Squaretalk needed a partner that treated compliance as seriously as it did.

What we set up

Every payment runs through CoinGate’s AML screening, and wallet and sanctions monitoring.
Payments convert to euros instantly, so Squaretalk never holds crypto.
Each payment is matched to its invoice and recorded in Squaretalk’s own systems.
Every transaction is traceable, with downloadable reports ready for audit.

The result

One of the biggest risk wins has been the end of chargebacks on crypto payments. International clients who used to wait on slow banks now settle invoices straight away.

Update, July 2026

A year later, with a MiCA-licensed partner

On 16 December 2025 the Bank of Lithuania authorised UAB Decentralized, which operates CoinGate, as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA, as the ESMA register records. For Squaretalk’s compliance and legal teams, that moved crypto closer to the infrastructure they already trusted.

When we last spoke, one item sat at the top of Squaretalk’s wishlist: a single address each client could save once and top up whenever they liked. That is what payment channels, now live, are built to do. Every deposit is detected, matched to the right client and settled automatically.
