The challenge
NordVPN’s customers care about privacy, and many are hard to reach through cards and banks. By 2017 the company was looking at crypto, because an open, borderless network avoids many of the access limits of traditional payment systems.
It needed a provider that could reach those customers across many blockchains without adding cost or volatility to its own books.
What we set up
NordVPN integrated CoinGate through the API in 2022 and listed crypto beside its other payment methods at checkout. CoinGate converts crypto to euros in the same account, which protects NordVPN from price swings.
The result
Crypto payments from customers in 176 countries, about 90.2% of the world.
A 9% increase in stablecoin payments (USDC and EURC) from Q3 2025 to Q3 2026.
USDC overtook Bitcoin as the most-used coin at checkout in Q3 2026.
