What is EURC?
EURC is a euro stablecoin issued by Circle. One EURC is intended to be worth one euro, backed by euro reserves, and it lets a European business take and settle crypto payments without a dollar ever entering the transaction.
Why a euro stablecoin is a different proposition from a dollar one
Most stablecoin volume is dollar-denominated. For a business that prices, banks and reports in euros, that means every payment carries a currency conversion that had nothing to do with the sale.
EURC removes that. A 500 EUR invoice paid in EURC is roughly 500 EUR of value, with no dollar leg and no FX to explain to anyone.
There is a regulatory dimension too. MiCA brought euro-denominated e-money tokens into scope in the EU, which is why a euro stablecoin from an authorised issuer sits differently from an offshore dollar one in a compliance conversation.
The practical catch is holding. Fewer people hold EURC than hold dollar stablecoins, so it is worth offering alongside rather than instead of them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I accept EURC with CoinGate?
Yes. It is one of the eleven assets a shopper can pay with. Accept EURC
Is EURC regulated?
Euro-denominated e-money tokens fall within MiCA in the EU. Circle issues EURC and its regulatory status is a matter for the issuer rather than for us to characterise.
Should I offer EURC instead of USDC?
Alongside, not instead. EURC removes a conversion for euro businesses. USDC is held by far more people.
Does it avoid FX entirely?
If you invoice in euros, settle in euros and the shopper pays in EURC, there is no currency conversion in the chain.
